I’m looking at this cheap CNC router setup.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’ve never done any CNC work before but I’ve dome some 3D printing (ABS & PLA). Do you think this setup would be a good starter unit for simple small plywood jobs, both structural and decorative?
Do you think it could be delicate enough for 1/8" plywood for mortise & tenon assembly, as well as bas relief on 2x4s?

I’m not sure it would hold a tight enough tolerance for mortise and tenon for that thin of material. It could surprise you, but I wouldn’t trust it for anything less 1/16" tolerance, and it likely has backlash on top of that.
That being said, there are forums just for CNC hobbyists and they’ll likely have more info on a system like this. I’ve always had access to higher end equipment at work, so I don’t spend a lot of time looking at these sort of systems.

Everything I’ve read about anything cheap with a gantry leads me to believe that accuracy doesn’t last very long. I’ve been contemplating a shapeoko XL or XXL for a bit as I’ve heard some good things about it but I think I need to free up some of my time to make it worth it. At $1500-1800 it isn’t cheap but it’s not as expensive as higher end stuff like axiom cncs.

Make sure it is super level wherever you put it. I don’t even want to know how expensive the level we use to check out CNC machine cost.
